Public Service Programs comprises three distinct student development and public service programs: AmeriCorps, The Bonner Leader Program, and the Next Generation Service Corps program.
AmeriCorps at Montclair focuses on public health and community well-being with the goal in mind of providing resources and services to communities that lack capacity. AmeriCorps members provide partner sites with the manpower necessary to increase their efforts in assisting the community.
The Bonner Leader Program is a four year undergraduate program that includes commitment to weekly service in local communities and with campus partners. Students in the Bonner program also receive training on topics such as social justice, follow a curriculum that promotes leadership development, and engage in activities such as reflections on what they have learned from their service experiences. The Bonner program is centered around the motto “Access to education, opportunity to serve” as it provides students from diverse backgrounds with a network of people who have a passion to change the world through community service and civic engagement.
The Next Generation Service Corps is an undergraduate program founded by the Volcker Alliance that aims to prepare students from different majors and backgrounds to serve not only their communities, but the nation as a whole, through public service over the course of at least two years. This program provides students experiential learning opportunities to help connect the skills learned from this to public service leadership and careers in this field.
