Greetings from the Department of Educational Foundations (EDFD)!
I'm reaching out as chair of the Department of Educational Foundations - my first year in this position, and a very active and fulfilling one at that! As you may know, EDFD was established 55 years ago, and today we continue to explore educational theory and practice from a range of perspectives: philosophical, psychological, sociological, and historical.
Educational Foundations ONE DAY Challenge
We have exciting news! I invite you to join One Day for Montclair - the day when the entire Montclair State University community comes together to celebrate student success and support future leaders and educators. Your generosity ensures that students receive the support, services and academic opportunities they need to succeed.
You can double your impact.
Your gift to Educational Foundations will help "unlock" a challenge of $2,500 to support our projects, programs and students. When our community comes together and raises a total of $2,500, we unlock the challenge and double our funds. Please know that gifts of all sizes add up to big change! Together we can raise $5,000!
Whether you're able to give or not, I hope we can be in touch to strengthen EDFD's connections to alumni and friends and build the department's future.
About Educational Foundations
Ed Foundations has grown immensely in the past few years. More than 600 undergraduates are now Educational Foundations majors preparing to become classroom teachers. Alongside offering courses for these students, EDFD houses units that you may be familiar with, as well as some more recent initiatives: Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children; Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Education Project; CALM consulting for classroom teachers; Creativity Lab; Gifted & Talented Education; and Educational Assessment.
This year, the department has welcomed back the journal Inquiry: Critical Thinking Across the Disciplines, which was originally launched here in the 1980s.
We were also honored to receive the books and papers of Nel Noddings (1929-2022), a prominent alumna of Montclair who is best known for her writings on the "ethic of care" in educational theory and practice.
Stay Connected!
I encourage you to be in touch with us - by reaching out to me as the current department chair via email, LinkedIn, or Facebook; by contacting a faculty or staff member you worked with in the past; or by joining MONTCLAIRconnect.
Best to you, on behalf of all EDFD faculty, staff, and students,
Dorothy Rogers
