College of Humanities and Social Sciences

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is dedicated to building the infrastructure that will produce tomorrow’s leaders and change-makers – the engaged citizens and thriving professionals who can confront the unprecedented challenges we are facing in our communities, our country and the world. We encompass a diverse group of disciplines that explore the fundamental questions of what it means to be human, of who we are, how we relate to each other, and how we connect to our societies and our environment.

Our faculty and staff are deeply engaged with partners in the communities around us and beyond, addressing vital challenges together. Through that engaged work, we are revolutionizing education in the Humanities and Social Sciences by helping students have an impact by teaching them in a way that encourages them to be creative risk takers and problem solvers and not simply passive recipients of knowledge.

A critical aspect of how we are training our students to be leaders and change-makers is increasing our commitment to experiential learning. Experiential learning provides hands-on opportunities for students to lead their education, both in and out of the classroom. Dean Kingstone believes strongly in the benefits of on-campus opportunities, especially those that include a stipend, in order to ensure all students can imagine themselves taking part in these forward-thinking opportunities. The Dean’s Office is deeply committed to experiential learning in the College and has committed significant dollars from the Dean’s discretionary fund to support a significant expansion in opportunities for students within the College. This support has gone to a diverse array of opportunities ranging from scholarships for internships in Washington, DC and around the State of New Jersey, stipends for participants in “change-making” educational experiments, awards for faculty-designed courses and laying the foundation for greater collaboration amongst the Dean’s Office and faculty to ensure more experiential learning opportunities are created.

In order to expand experiential learning within CHSS we need your help to fund innovative courses, award scholarships for internships both on-campus and off and advance partnerships providing incredible hands-on learning for students. Your gift will ensure that experiential learning in CHSS is available to every student, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Thank you for your partnership that will transform the lives of our students!
