The Office for Hispanic Initiatives, established in 2018, is dedicated to upholding the university’s allegiance to promoting an inclusive environment to support the success of all Hispanic/Latinx students, faculty, staff, and communities. As the largest Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) in the state of New Jersey, Montclair State University is strategically situated to further our knowledge and understanding about Hispanics/Latinx in N.J., the region, and the U.S. as an integral component of our social fabric. On October 27, 2021, Montclair State University was named a Fulbright HSI Leader by the U.S. Department of State. The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to increase mutual understanding between Americans and the people of other countries.
The office is led by Dr. Katia Paz Goldfarb, Associate Provost for Hispanic Initiatives and International Programs. Our programs include the:
Hispanic Student College Institute (HSCI), an immersive college preparedness summer institute for high school rising junior and seniors that focuses on the college application process, transition to college and academic success.
Hispanic/Latinx Alumni Network (HLAN) was launched in February 2021 to provide opportunities for networking among Hispanic/Latinx alumni and extend relationships with current and future Montclair State students.
Hispanic Heritage Month - We offer a calendar of in-person and virtual events for Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 - October 15) for the Montclair State community. In 2021, we concluded the month with the first annual Hispanic Heritage Month Block Party. Read about it here.
