48 for Montclair State
48 hours to do good...

Last year, we raised the bar for our third annual Giving Day. We had big goals, and you helped us exceed them! Nearly 500 donors came together to raise almost $103,000 in support of Montclair State University.

Now that we've seen what you can do, we're gearing up for this year. On April 25 - 26, the Montclair State community will come together to support Montclair State students.

We need you to help us raise even more this year! Every gift, from every donor, counts!

Keep an eye out for emails, social media messages, calls, and more leading up to and throughout April 25 - 26. Be sure to spread the word by using the hashtag #48forMontclairState!

The Red Hawk Pantry
Apr 26, 2019

In April 2016, the Red Hawk Pantry opened for the first time and continues to serve the needs of our students. With your help, the pantry continues to grow and serve the needs of our students. Your support during 48 for Montclair State will allow the Red Hawk Pantry to offer more hours, stock more supplies and expand its services to students.

  • A 2016 survey of nearly 200 Montclair State students revealed that more than 10% of our students suffer from food insecurity on a daily basis.
  • Of those students surveyed, 15% expressed a need on weekly basis.
  • 12% of the students indicated suffering from food insecurity on a monthly basis.
  • The average GPA of students using the pantry is 3.19.

During the Spring 2019 Semester, students were invited to participate in research about food security on campus. A total of 628 students completed this updated survey, which included a modified version of the USDA Adult Food Security Survey.

The data suggests that more than 4 out of every 10 students who responded to the survey may suffer from food insecurity during the academic semester, and may not have access to enough food, or have only low quality foods, on a regular basis.
